Make a Meaningful Difference with Sangre de Cristo Community Care

Volunteers are the heart of Sangre de Cristo Community Care. Every day, our hospice and community volunteers bring comfort, dignity, and support to patients and families across Southern Colorado. Your compassion helps those we serve live life to the fullest—with healing, hope, and connection.

Whether you want to support patients directly, assist behind the scenes, or share a special skill, you’ll find a meaningful role within our volunteer family. We welcome adults, high school students ages 14–18, and community groups, with flexible times and multiple locations available.

Volunteer Opportunities

Direct Patient Care
Provide companionship and emotional support at the bedside. Volunteers may sit with patients, read aloud, provide caregiver relief, or simply offer presence during important moments.

Veterans Serving Veterans
No one understands the unique experiences of our veterans better than active or retired military personnel. Veteran volunteers offer companionship, honor, and connection to fellow veterans in our care.

Administrative/Office Support
Help keep our programs running smoothly by supporting essential office operations, including filing, data entry, phone calls, and other administrative tasks.

Spiritual Support
Engage patients in familiar spiritual practices and comforting activities that bring peace, reflection, and reassurance during their care journey.

Memory Bears
Sew and craft personalized stuffed bears made from a loved one’s clothing. These keepsake bears bring comfort and lasting memories to families.

Complementary Support
Offer gentle, holistic comfort through essential-oil relaxation, hand massage, music companioning, or other supportive modalities that ease stress for patients and caregivers.

Activities of Life Enrichment
Support patients indirectly by creating comforting items—such as blankets, quilts, and other meaningful handmade gifts—that enhance quality of life and emotional well-being.

Bereavement Companion
Assist our bereavement team by checking in with families, offering compassionate support, and helping connect loved ones with appropriate grief resources.

Start Your Volunteer Journey

When you volunteer with Sangre, you become part of a mission-driven, compassionate community. No matter your talent—whether it’s sitting with patients, sewing, music, administrative work, or veteran outreach—your gift of time changes lives.

Join us today and discover how volunteering with Sangre de Cristo Community Care can make a difference for others and for you. To become a volunteer, you must be available to participate in initial Sangre volunteer training as well as basic orientation. Additional volunteer trainings are available if needed. Volunteer selection begins with an application and interview in which potential volunteers may express their personal goals, availability, interests, and talents. Of course, our volunteers are carefully screened through a criminal background check, motor vehicle report, and personal references.
